Sobyan Alhsan, where did the name come from?

The Fuheisy people were known as Sobyan Alhsan, The Horse Boys, by all the other tribes of Jordan. The name Sobyan Alhsan is equivalent to the name “Al Fuheisies”.

Al Fuheis is a very ancient roman city and the people who lived in it were originally from Ghassanian roots. The Fuheisies use to take boys ages six and up (sobyan) and hand them over to the instructors to teach them horse riding, archery, spear and sword fighting and all the arts of war and fighting, imitating the Roman system. Teams were formed, very similar to today’s Militia. These young groups were called Sobyan Alhoson (The Horses Boys) because of their young age, and after they mastered the arts of war, they called them Sobyan Alhsan, because the horse was and remains the symbol of authenticity and the measure of strength.

Al Hoson is a city in the Irbid governorate which means the fortress, which also means horses. The name “The Horse Boys” (Sobyan Alhson) is a traditional title for Al Fuheisies. After the true meaning of the name “fuheis” was discovered (The Bulwark, The Strong Fortress) and to eliminate any confusion between the names, the Fuheisies took the horse as their emblem, used it as a statue in the city entrance in the middle of a roundabout to represent their pride, the achievements of their first ancestors and to mark the name “Sobyan Alhsan” and called it “The Horse Roundabout”.

صبيان الحصان

لقبْ أهل الفحيص عند القبائل الاردنية هو صبيان الحصان، أما اسم صبيان الحصان فهو الاسم المرادف لاسم الفحيصية ، فقد كانوا أهالي الفحيص القديمة والتي هي رومانية ومن مدن الغساسنة أصلاً ، يأخذون الأحداث أي الصبيان من عمر ست سنوات فما فوق ويسلموهم الى مدربين لكي  يُعلِموهم الفروسية وركوبِ الخيل والرماية بالرمح والقتال بالسيف وجميع فنون الحرب والقتال، مقلدين النظام الروماني.  فكانوا هؤلاء يشكّلون فرق أشبه ما تكون بالمليشيات اليوم ، وهذه الفرق ولصغر أعمارهم كانوا يُسموهم صبيان الحصن، وبعد أن أتقنوا فنون الحرب لقبوا بصبيان الحصان ، لأن الحصان كان ولم يزل رمز الأصالة ومقياساً لِلقوة . وحتى لا يقع اي التباس لتشابه الأسماء ، ونظراً لوجود مدينة الحصن في محافظة اربد، واسم صبيان الحصان هو اللقب المعروف به أهل الفحيص عند جميع قبائل الأردن لحد الأن ، وبعد أن عرفنا المعنى الصحيح لاسم الفحيص – أي الحصن المنيع والاسم المرادف لأهالي الفحيص والذي هو صبيان الحصان لذلك إتخذَ أهل الفحيص حالياً الحصان شعارأ لهم ووضعوا له تمثالآ في مدخل البلد اعتزازا وفخرا بما حققه أجدادهم الأولون ، وتخليدا لاسم صبيان الحصان ، وسموه دوار الحصان
